Private tutor in Hong Kong, Hong Kong

Education

CertTESOL, Trinity College London PhD, Quantitative Biology, University of Texas at Arlington (All But Degree / ABD) Masters in Biology, Missouri State University Bachelor of Art, Louisiana State University High School Diploma, Little Rock Central High School

Experience

I have over 5 years' experience providing Hong Kong private lessons ranging from kindergarten students to corporate executives in multiple subject/strategy areas - particularly English and Biology. I selectively tutor in subjects that I enjoy because I value passing my abilities on to other learners. My academic background includes 8 years as a university professor in USA and dozens of professional conferences at which I presented and/or managed workshops and chaired sessions. In moving to Hong Kong, I made a career shift from focusing on research-based subject teaching to language-based instruction in particular areas of need for individual students and classrooms alike. I served as a full classroom teacher in Hong Kong for 3 years, and then focused on individual lessons and specialty training courses. I seek both short-term and long-term working relationships based on individual learners' needs, and aim to personalize lessons based on their strengths and weaknesses. My main areas of study have been in the biological sciences and the English language. However, I continue to enjoy building tutoring lessons around the interests of my learners to strengthen their study and communication habits.

Hobbies

My personal interests include some of the academics in which I've worked (writing, publishing, field research/study), as well as artwork, hiking, boating, and home audio development. I value research and experimentation for hands-on learning in all subjects - curiosity is the basis for learning, and I aim to identify with individuals' personal interests to help build their abilities in subject areas that may otherwise seem less accessible.
